Matthias Maierhofeis an Austrian organist and church musician. His successful concert career has taken him to important music festivals such as the Brucknertage at the St. Florian Monastery in Linz, Austria, the Internationale Orgelwoche Nürnberg in Nuremberg, Germany, the Mendelssohnfesttage in Leipzig, Germany, the Lithuanian Orgelfest, the Bachwoche in Ansbach, Germany, the Birmingham Symphony Hall in Great Britain, the Izumi Hall in Izumi, Osaka, Japan, the Musikfest in Stuttgart, Germany, and the Domkonzerte in Riga, Latvia.

In 2016, Matthias Maierhofer recorded of J.S. Bach’s masterful piece The Art of Fugue at the Dresden Frauenkirche; almost 300 years earlier, in 1736, famed organ maker Gottfried Silbermann built 43-stop organ for the church which was dedicated on 25 November by Johann Sebastian Bach himself. Shortly after recording the music, Matthias approached ngd to create a visual identity for the album.

The identity focused on the organ and music: the logo is build on 12 vertical lines; a visual representation of the first musical phrase from The Art of Fugue and the vertical pipes of the organ. The color palette was taken from the organ at the Dresden Frauenkirche on which Matthias performed and recorded the CD. For typography, using the classic German grotesque sans serif Akzidenz Grotesk reflected the composition well in its simple and neutral letterforms.
